“Birth Of The Endless Summer” At The Newport Beach Film Festival

The new documentary film “Birth of The Endless Summer: Discovery of Cape St. Francis” is making its world premiere at the 2021 Newport Beach Film Festival. Directed by filmmaker Richard Yelland, the film tells the never-been-told-before story behind one of the most beloved and watched documentaries of all time, Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer.

Following California surf pioneer and SHACC founder Dick Metz as he vagabonds the globe from 1958-1961, the train-jumping, steamship-hopping tour led to his discovery of “the perfect wave” at Cape St. Francis, South Africa. After returning home to Dana Point, California, Metz told his friend, Bruce Brown, what he’d just uncovered, which in turn inspired “The Endless Summer.”

The world premiere screening on Tuesday, October 26 is already sold out, but there are still tickets left for the show on Thursday October 28 at The Lot in Newport Beach. Buy tickets here.
