LINDA MICHAEL
DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION & EVENTS
Linda Michael has served as the business administrator, operations manager, and the most friendly face at SHACC since 2007. After receiving her B.A. from Cal State University Fullerton, she began her career in marketing and event planning. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the beach, swimming, and traveling. She resides in Dana Point with her family. Her favorite breaks are San Onofre and Canoes.

BARRY K. HAUN
LEAD HISTORIAN & CURATOR
Barry K. Haun has been the sole Curator and Creative Director at SHACC since 2003. Educated at USC, his past work consists of serving as an assistant to the renowned artist Patrick Nagel, Graphic Designer with Mirage Editions, Industrial Design/TAZ; Principle and Creative Director with Alliance Studio, consultant for Los Angeles Visual Arts (LAVA), United Way, and the Skirball Cultural Center. Past and current clients include the World Surf League (WSL), 3M, Roxy, Jose Cuervo, David Copperfield, and FUNSTRS. When he’s not working with surfboards, Barry loves traveling with his wife, visiting other museums, “golfing”, and dabbling in art. His favorite and home break is San Onofre.

KATE LUITJENS
DIRECTOR OF ARCHIVES & ADVANCEMENT
Kate Luitjens has been working at SHACC since 2019 while receiving her Bachelor’s in Communication and Archaeology, with a minor in geoscience, from the University of California, San Diego. Since graduating in 2023, she plans to pursue a career in museum work.

Chris Mauro
SOCIAL MEDIA & SURF HISTORIAN
Chris Mauro has been a leading voice in global surf culture for more than four decades, with over 30 years dedicated to documenting its people, places, and stories. A former competitor and board shaper, he spent a decade at Surfer Magazine, ultimately serving as editor in chief. His career has spanned print, film, television, and digital media, where he profiled many of the sport’s most influential figures and later directed editorial efforts across a range of adventure and lifestyle publications. He has also produced national campaigns for major global brands. Today, through his People Who Surf podcast and his work with SHACC, Chris continues to share his deep knowledge of surfing’s history and culture, helping preserve and celebrate its rich heritage.
